Growing Food

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants

Michael Pollan, In Defence of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto

There are lots of reasons for growing at least some of your own food. Perhaps you enjoy the fresh taste of those just-picked lettuces and beans from your own backyard. Maybe you want to grow varieties of tomatoes and peppers that are not easily found in the grocery store. Or perhaps it is something about the hands-in-dirt practicality, exercise and fresh air that appeals.

Many eaters are attracted to the idea of reducing “food miles” with the attendant costs to the environment of long distance transport, and the unknown conditions (for plants and workers alike) in far away fields. And in these days of ever climbing prices, the idea of “free” food certainly has appeal!

Whatever your reasons, come explore our resources to get started on your journey to fresh tasty homegrown food.
