One thing we know with absolute certainty is that everything we need to survive – every morsel of food we put in our mouths, the oxygen in every breath we take, the clean water we drink – is the the product of the work done by other species.
Enric Sala, The Nature of Nature: Why we Need the Wild
In the words of the UN Convention of Biological Diversity, “Biodiversity is our natural safety net.” The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on biodiversity—what Robert McFarlane calls the “wondrous, teeming, calamitously threatened variety and variability of life on earth, sometimes measured by species richness.”

Take the pledge
The air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat all rely on biodiversity. By changing how we garden—by transforming our relationship to the natural world—each of us can make a substantial difference in reversing the loss of biodiversity while at the same time increasing our climate resilience.
The land is a living entity and it is constantly in conversation with those of us who know how to listen to it.
Enrique Salmón, Rarámuri
Nature gives us resilience. Nature gives us safety. Now, we must give back. We must protect the web of life that has showered us with her gifts. Let’s bring magic back into our city. Together, let’s grow a magical, resilient, and Kingston.
